The first post-graduate training in the field of Psychological Counseling and Guidance began in the Department of Education, which was opened in the Postgraduate Education Faculty of the Hacettepe University in 1966-1967 academic year. In 1974, It was carried out in the Department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance within the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences under the presidency of Prof. Dr. Feriha BAYMUR. The Department has been transformed into a Division under the Department of Educational Sciences in the Faculty of Education by Higher Education Institution (YÖK) Act which was adopted in 1982.

Our division gave its first graduates in 1974. The first doctoral degree in our department Dr. İbrahim Ethem Özgüven and first graduate student is Nilüfer Voltan Acar. The first undergraduate students of our department graduated in 1986. Because it is the first graduate Psychological Counseling and Guidance program in Turkey, our division have also produced the teaching staff that other universities need. In addition, the Turkish Psychological Counseling and Guidance Association was established in 1989 with the help of our academic staff. To date, 306 people have graduated from our doctoral program.
